The thing that scares people the most about working in the creative world is the fact that you have to go out there and do it yourself. Talent shows, lucky breaks and grants are popular touchstones because it's easy to comprehend the onus of success falling on the wealthy and powerful. However, no revolution ever happened, no breakthrough genre ever evolved, no history-making artist ever staked their claim through being discovered by something larger. There is nothing larger in the creative world than originality, talent, resourcefulness, practise, vision. Don't undervalue your time, don't undervalue your product, your process. Don't underestimate your ability to achieve your artistic goals without the aid of higher ups. Invest in yourself and watch those people fall to the side while you build your world.
